I work for a small IT firm and we are preparing for the release of Windows I\’ve been reading up on it and it and it all seems very simple, you click on the icon and then reserve your copy, I\’ve done this on my Personal PC but i could not find it on my work PC.

Now this got me thinking, the app is not on any of our office PC\’s, then I noticed its not on any client machines, all have in common that they are joined to a domain. Am i right in thinking that Microsoft have stopped the app from appearing so that users don\’t upgrade themselves? If this is the case how do we as the IT Admin get the app to appear. Check with your IT administrator. Okay so the below website has 2 tools 1 in 32 bit and 1 in 64 bit, this allows you to download Windows 10 if you don\’t have the icon, e.

I let the tool burn to a USB and then I ran setup. Only thing left is to decide how to roll this out to my clients. That\’s why you\’re not seeing it. I suppose you could try and download update KB Personally, I\’d wait a bit though. Update KB is installed but still no icon because its on a domain yes we know that, but when its released how do i upgrade a domain PC? Brand Representative for Microsoft. There is also a pretty good FAQ online here with more details on the upgrade, path, licensing etc.

The app is there. For domain joined, MDM managed devices, and enterprise edition the flag is \”no\”. Domain Joined computers are not supported at this time unfortunately. Your best option is to download the. How will Domain Joined computers that are not volume license clients be able to check their systems and reserve the Windows 10 upgrade?

You will need to use Enterprise Assessment tools for the range of computers you have. The reservation app does not work in complex IT environments. It can help you quickly inventory small or large IT environments without requiring you to install any agent software in your environment.

Going to guess if you put the Media into the PC while logged in it should offer a in-place upgrade like most other versions do, or boot off it and do a clean install. If i have to do clean installs on all PC\’s i\’m going to literally cry, Microsoft surely must offer an upgrade way. I suppose lets just sit and wait and deal with Microsoft\’s Shit storm when clients mess it up.

I\’m sure Microsoft forget that us IT pro\’s and partners get all the ear ache. Well since users on the domain won\’t get the icon and be able to click anything we should be able to come up with a Plan.

We don\’t have SA, but I thought that was generally an Enterprise thing, and I was under the impression Pro machines qualify regardless of being home or business owned. All of our systems came with a Pro COA, 7 and 8. Going by the upgrade offer, they should all qualify, but as noted they\’re domain joined, and I wouldn\’t want to in-place upgrade a bunch of office machines anyway. I\’ve always used the re-imaging rights granted by having a volume license, which lets you use that media and key on anything with a qualifying COA in my case, re-imaging with 7 Pro since they have 7 Pro and 8 Pro, they either have the same COA or are a downgrade.

If not, they still qualify for the upgrade since I could just disjoin the domain and upgrade, but that seems a stupid and unnecessary punishment. I\’ve already caught him misinforming people and going back and making additional edits. There are still questions left unanswered read the additional pages in the FAQ I linked to.

These unofficial FAQs including mine are created because we have received very little direction from Microsoft. The information we have to go from is based on personal experiences, Microsoft employee social media, and news outlets. It would be very helpful if Microsoft would officially put an end to this instead of driving us all mad. I can\’t tell you how much time I\’ve invested the past couple of weeks to keep my FAQ here updated and accurate. Not to mention the time spent answering questions in other topics.

Great, there will be an ISO. Exactly how, when, and where can we get it? It\’s only available for consumers, not for business. In business, you have different licensing agreements. That has to be nonsense, these machines come with standard windows end user licences even if they are the professional edition, my home PC and laptop are Pro and get the icon. Mike wrote: Only the Enterprise versions will not have the free upgrade offer. Active Software Assurance customers in volume licensing have the benefit to upgrade to Windows 10 enterprise offerings outside of this offer.

That\’s actually my preference, I\’d rather just go with a clean slate on everything. Bryan Doe wrote: That\’s actually my preference, I\’d rather just go with a clean slate on everything. Sorry that\’s not exactly correct. Only the Enterprise versions will not have the free upgrade offer. Microsoft is assuming everyone running the Enterprise version of Windows has an SA contract, which automatically grants upgrade rights.

It just won\’t be automatic. This topic has been locked by an administrator and is no longer open for commenting. Read these next

Windows 10 missing join domain free download.Join to Domain

Okay so the below website has 2 tools 1 in 32 bit and 1 in 64 bit, this allows you to download Windows 10 if you don\’t have the icon, e. I let the tool burn to a USB and then I ran setup. Only thing left is to decide how to roll this out to my clients. This is the answer. All is good. USB tool works, but I somehow managed to \’trick\’ windows to get a domain joined Surface Pro 3 running 8. I\’m not sure how it worked, but I dis-joined the machine from the domain, ran the Get Windows 10 app, it asked me for a key.

Wanting to go home, I gave up at that point and clicked cancel and rejoined the machine to the domain. When I got home with my SP3, I opened Windows update from the control panel, checked for updates from Microsoft and there was Windows 10 waiting for me to click install.

I decided to roll the dice and everything went smooth. Stoked :. USB tool worked great, I was able to upgrade to Windows 10 on a domain joined computer, however when I try to log on using the domain account, the computer crashes and I get the blue screen of death.

An alternate way of getting the upgrade on a domain joined system is to set a registry key, see attached image for extract from Microsoft support forum.

The upgrade can be initiated on pro domain machines if you log in with a local admin user account and not a domain account. You can\’t do a clean install as it checks your current system is eligible for free upgrade. The traditional clean install – boot from install media and wipe the drive. No need to initiate anything from within Windows.

That\’s may not work for everyone,Windows 10 is intended as an upgrade and if you run as clean install booting from a Win10 CD or USB Drive it may not be activated on older computers that do not have the license saved in the bios. Notice I said after the in-place upgrade. That has to happen first, but once 10 activates the clean install is possible. This could not have been any easier! Did not even have to restart after the adding the key to the registry. I have an office with server r2 as Domain Controller.

There is 5 Windows 8. Each one connected to the Domain. I want to update windows Needs Product Key to do update. As I understand it, all free upgrades using Windows Update or the Update PC with the media creation tool uses the exact same key for every single version on the planet that wasn\’t a retail purchased Windows 10, which includes an individual key.

Pulling the CD key off an upgraded Windows 10 install will unfortunately not be any help to you. This may be different with Domain machines, but I don\’t think they make that exception in this process. Any system that was upgraded previously will automatically be allowed to reinstall a fresh install of Windows 10 and activate whenever necessary, as it was previously registered during the previous upgrade and activation.

A traditional clean install is completely possible after the in-place upgrade. You can use the reset option, but it\’s not the only method. FrizzleFry This person is a verified professional.
